A new documentary takes a critical look at the evolution of the historical Black Church in America and puts megachurch pastors under a harsh spotlight, especially those who are treated like superstars and amass wealth from preaching a Gospel they might not necessarily adhere to.
The institution of the church is at the heart and soul of black America, for whom the church has been, among many things, an escape, a means of upward mobility and a celebratory community where its leaders are respected and members' humanity affirmed.
"Black churches are different for a variety of reasons. One, is the need to address the social, political, the cultural and economic ramifications of anti-black racism in the United States," explains Dr. Anthony Pinn, professor of Religious Studies at Rice University, in Black Church Inc. more >>
Pastor Creflo Dollar's World Changers International Church in Georgia has sent 3,000 boxes with everything needed for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner in the Atlanta area, as part of the "Thanksgiving Feeding Families" initiative.
"One of the best ways to express gratitude to God for what He has done for us is to serve others," Dollar said in a statement. "We commend the hundreds of volunteers and those who supported this ministry financially to make it possible for us to serve 3,000 families who need our help this Thanksgiving season."
"Some church volunteers chose to participate as a family as a hands-on servanthood lesson," added Minister Kenneth Terry, director of ministry affairs and outreach. "They arrived early Saturday morning, and many stayed for hours to interact with recipients." more >>

Georgia megachurch pastor Creflo Dollar has successfully had battery charges against him dropped after he completed an anger management program, after accusations last year that he physically attacked his 15-year-old daughter.
"As a prosecutor it is my job to strike the appropriate balance of punishment and rehabilitation in every case I handle," said State Court Solicitor Jamie K. Inagawa, according to TheCitizen.com. "I feel that my office has accomplished just such a balance in this case. The defendant has been punished for his actions, concerns for his possible re-offending have been addressed and the family unit has been preserved."
