President Barack Obama may have new pressure on him to consider religious liberty issues regarding his pending executive order barring LGBT employment discrimination.
In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby, many believe a renewed demand for religious exemption consideration now exists.
On Monday, the highest court in the land ruled 5 to 4 that a closely held business such as a family-owned one could be exempted from providing certain forms of birth control due to religious objections. more >>
BALTIMORE — With religious liberty under assault on multiple fronts, there may come a point in which pastors have to go to jail to defend their freedom, Pastor Rick Warren told The Christian Post.
Comparing the struggle to Martin Luther King, Jr.'s fight against racism, Warren said, "I do believe in civil disobedience, resistance through nonviolence."
CP spoke to Warren, a best-selling author and pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, at the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting in Baltimore, Maryland. He was on a June 9 panel called, "Hobby Lobby and the Future of Religious Liberty," hosted by the SBC's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission. more >>
BALTIMORE – Saddleback Pastor Rick Warren remembered his late son, Matthew, Monday night as a fruitful Christian who used his trials to spread the gospel and encouraged hurting pastors at the Southern Baptist Convention Pastors' Conference to do to the same.
Warren said Matthew would have been a great counselor because he regularly used his pain to help uplift others.
He spent so much time helping others that after his death, Warren said, "I may have received 30-35 thousand letters of condolences from people around the world, and it wasn't the rock stars, the prime ministers or the presidents' cards and letters that meant the most to me. The letters that meant the most to me were letters from people that Matthew had led to Christ, and they would say 'I'm going to be in heaven because of your son.'" more >>
Saddleback Church pastor Rick Warren and his wife, Kay, are set to receive honorary degrees at Biola University's Spring 2014 Commencement. The late Prison Fellowship Ministries founder, Charles W. "Chuck" Colson, will also be honored with a reward that celebrates him as a "heroic Christian leader."
"Kay Warren embodies a life of faith and courage, demonstrating what it means to fully embrace God's greater narrative," said Biola President Barry H. Corey. "Her work for the global church and those suffering from HIV and AIDS across the world is a model of the kind of conviction and courage that Biola seeks to develop in all of our graduates."

One year after his son's suicide, Rick Warren, author of the Purpose Driven Life and pastor at Saddleback Church in Southern California, said that his sermons during worship services beginning this Thursday evening, will be about how the message of Easter provides the answer to life's most devastating trials.
"Do you ever find yourself discouraged, or depressed or defeated, or even devastated by the circumstances in your life? If so, let me take a minute to encourage you about the pathway to hope and change and transformation that I've found in the Easter story of the resurrection of Jesus," said Warren during a video he released earlier this week (see video below).
"Five days after Easter last year, my 27-year-old son ended his own life. He battled mental illness since a child and despite the best doctors and meds and therapy, and prayers and love, he lost his battle for hope and our family was devastated." more >>
LOS ANGELES – Saddleback Church founder Pastor Rick Warren plans to preach at two Easter Sunday worship services at Hollywood High School as part of launching a church campus in Los Angeles.
"We have been planning this for years and praying for it and I'm so excited to have a Saddleback campus in the heart of the great city of Los Angeles," says Warren in a promotional radio announcement.
The 1,800-seat Hollywood High auditorium along with the school's parking area will be used by Saddleback for the Easter services on April 20. No specific plans regarding where the Los Angeles campus will be located or when services will begin after Easter have been released by the church. However, more than 1,000 people have already expressed an interest in the regional and international campus by way of joining an email list and more than 300 volunteers have signed up to help host the Easter services at Hollywood High. more >>
