7 Powerful Bible Verses That Can Help Us Practice Our Gift Of Edification

December 30, 2014|11:15 am

In today's world there are many cases of people bringing others down, whether it be on TV, social media, or even talk radio. This can be very hurtful to a person when the wrong words are used.

The misuse of words and actions toward another person can destroy them spiritually, mentally and emotionally. We do not know what that person has been through, so we should not judge. In the Church, which is built on the foundation of Christ's love, we learn to treat one another with love and respect. Therefore, being a hurtful person to someone who attends Church or is a follower of Christ is not right, especially if they treat you with respect.

The church continues to grow as we edify other people with our words and actions. As Christians, we are mandated by the spirit of God to enlighten the whole body of Jesus.

Review these 7 Bible verses to practice your gift of edification:

"Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another" (Romans 14:19).

"Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification" (Romans 15:2).

"Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the authority which the Lord has given me for edification and not for destruction" (2 Corinthians 13:10).

"Now concerning things offered to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies" (1 Corinthians 8:1).

"And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ" (Ephesians 4:11-12).

"So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing" (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

"The church then had peace throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and it became stronger as the believers lived in the fear of the Lord. And with the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, it also grew in numbers" (Acts 9:31).
